You made that out of paper?

A Break from Insanity

First off, kudos to WordPress for having an iPhone app with the ability to update my blog while in bed :o)

Secondly, I’m so thankful tonight for the ability to come home from work and not have to think about anything! This past Friday night, the hubby came home from work with a fever, aka the same crud I’ve been fighting with for the last 2 weeks. I’ve pretty much been running at full speed since then: taking care of/worrying about him (my mom implanted motherly instinct at a young age), cleaning up the house, trying to get myself better, and other miscellaneous extra house and work duties. I needed a break.

It was so wonderful to come home to a quiet and empty house that would continue to be that way for a few more hours. ::insert sigh of relief::

I started the night out with a need to mess with my silhouette cameo cutting machine. I have been messing with it on and off for a couple of months trying to get it to cut my rose templates out. Hail to the victor, because I got it figures out!

By the time I figured out the how to cut the flowers and the proper sizes for each of them, my hubby had returned home from work again, quickly finding his way to the couch next to me and dozing off immediately. The cutting on the machine didn’t even wake him. Since I know he needs to rest, I made the decision not to cut flowers out tonight, but rather go up to my studio in the attic to finish up my daisy treasure pots.

I started making these pots a few days ago when I really needed a break from all the circles for for my flower earrings. I really wanted to get some quilling done in my studio. Since most all of the equipment to make these pots is in my studio, it wasn’t a bad idea.

Tonight mostly consisted of shaping the pot bases and lids, sealing them, and gluing on petals.

They go nice with my sunflower treasure pots. I think I probably will put leaves on these pots as well.

One thing I do know for sure is that my mom will love them!

Feeling Behind

I know I haven’t posted very much lately. I just haven’t been doing much to warrent a post. I’ve been under the weather for pretty much the first two weeks of the month, so not much quilling has been happening.

I’m actually feeling pretty behind in preparation for the craft show coming up in November. As it was such a nice day yesterday, I took to my porch and worked on some quilling. Then I decided to photograph what I’ve gotten done so far for the craft show.

IMG_0509

Top Left: Flowers/Molly pieces. These are completed and have been since before the decision to do the craft show, so they don’t really count as “being completed”.

Bottom Left: Lots and lots of circles. Generally, each bag will make about 8 pairs of earrings, with exception to the 2 bags of purple/yellow circles. For the purple/yellow circles I started going into more of a mass paper mode for the craft show, doing 24 strips of each color at once, then ripping them to size and gluing the 2 colors together. It does take up a lot of time, but for certain colors (particularly school colors that represent the different schools in town) I feel it will be best to have as many pairs as I can available at the show, because they are “school colors” and I really have no idea how popular they will be. In the 2 bags of these, there are enough circles to make 16 pairs of earrings.

Top Right: Green & Yellow Strips. My next venture of mass paper mode. These strips will make 16 pairs of earrings.

Bottom Right: Christmas Lights. These are mostly ones that I had completed before christmas to list on Etsy. I have used some of them, also, for christmas light wine charms. I believe my list of items to complete includeds 8-10 pairs of earrings in each color (16-20 bulbs) and 8-10 wine charms in each color. Since I love math, that equates to 30 bulbs in each color. ::sigh::

On my list I also have some finger puppet princess/prom queens (which I already have the body’s rolled and glued as flat circles, but not shaped and glued), snowflakes (which I would like to dip in glitter) with (handmade) gift boxes, flower wine glass charms, and some paper pots. Right now I’m having a hard time telling if i’m on-track, a little behind, or if I was just way too ambitious for myself.

A long time from quilling.

Well, I actually had about 19 days this month that I didn’t do any quilling. The only thing I did that related at all to quilling was adding 3 new items to my Etsy shop.

I don’t really know what happened.

I have been bringing my quilling into work with me, and I’ll sit out in the lounge area and quill on my lunch hour. It does help me chip away and my giant list of inventory needed for the craft show in November. I have a lot of work to get done, though. I hope I will be closer to getting done. I’m half tempted to take a *break from life* and get a hotel room for a weekend by myself and do nothing but quilling for the entire time. Wishful thinking…

I didn’t end up bringing my quilling with me to work today, because I have bigger fish to fry on my lunch hour – business taxes. Fun stuff.

Quilling Storage

So, on my favorite etsy team, Paper Twirlies, we’re discussing different paper storage methods. There are various creative methods of storage, so I thought I would share my storage.

I actually found this on a blog somewhere, but for the life of me, i couldn’t find it again. So, if you are the one that came up with this storage method, let me know and I’ll give you credit.

These binders are basically filled with sheet protectors, but have been divided in half using a food saver machine to melt the two sheets together. I have a little sheet of paper stuck in each one that lists what color it is, as well as what company its from and the product number for that color. I have three 2″ binders filled with paper like this, and I keep them in a reusable grocery sack.

I’ve tried various ways of storing my paper, and this is the one that has worked best for me. I like that the paper is organized, and keeping them in binders in a grocery sack makes it easy for travel (the last time I took it out of my house was when I was quilling at Panara’s over Christmas break).

Happy quilling!

New Treasury Lists!

It was quite a nice suprise to have not logged into Etsy in a few days (due to Christmas and not being home) to find about 52 activity posts, and being featured in 2 new treasuries!

My Purple Flower Sometimes I Laugh So Hard Post-it Note pad cover was featured in these two blogs! (click on the picture to go directly to the treasury).
